Transporting your Pictures
Don't carry your pictures by the wire or cord as the bounce effect of
walking creates added tension to not only the hanging hardware, but also
to the frame itself.
Don't leave your picture out in the sun or in a hot car any longer than
necessary, as a quick temperature change can create condensation that is
detrimental to the artwork.
Hanging your
Pictures
Pictures
should be hung with picture hooks. Hanging
from a nail lets the frame easily shift from being level and increases
the possibility of the frame being bumped and knocked off the wall. In
most instances, frames should be hung using two hooks.
If you have a very heavy frame or if you are mounting frames on brick or
masonry walls, the use of masonry hangers is suggested. Hooks are
available for use with these types of fittings from most of the larger
hardware stores.
Width of Mat boards
Wider mats create focus toward the
artwork
Coordinate
Colours
You can create an emphasis
by using certain colours within your artwork to help fit in with your
decor.
Colour
Choice
When using mat boards, in a lot of
cases the top mat should be neutral in colour, and should not dominate
or it will detract from the art. Additional mats below the top mat will
provide accents for coordinating with surroundings, or to create an
emphasis on certain colours within the art itself.
Cleaning
Your Pictures Glass
When the need arises to clean the glass on your picture, spray the cleaner onto a soft
cloth and then clean the glass. If you spray the cleaner directly onto the
glass it may run under the frames lip, under the glass, and onto the mat
board or worse still the artwork itself.
Where to hang it?
Ideally picture frames should be displayed at eye level,
but thought must be given to individual needs. Pictures that are planned
to be hung very high or low may require special consideration in design
of the matting to prevent an optical illusion.
Any artwork on paper is not recommended to be hung in high humidity
areas such as bathrooms. It is also not a good idea to hang it in areas
such as kitchens, where there is a a likelihood of grease and
cooking pollutants from time to time.
